Yoleven at the Station for a Block Party

  • Workout Date - 01/03/2017
  • Q In Charge - Perry Mason
  • The PAX - No Bars, Wally, iTunes, Wax On, Erector, Kilowatt, Sega (Kotters), Biofreeze, No Strings Attached, Jinxy, Perry Mason
  • AO -

YHC took the Q yesterday to get the year started off right and work off some extra lbs from the holidays. Then I checked the weather forecast and wondered how many would be joining me this morning. 10 men did not let the forecast deter them and were rewarded at the Station with a light mist rather than the downpour that was expected. We still managed to get soaked, though.

The Workout

Mosey over to the corner of 14 and Poinsett for a 4 corners escalator around the block. We did the following stations:

Florist shop parking lot: 10 merkins
Lot across from MUMC: 10 merkins & 20 squats
Spinning Jenny Lot: 10 merkins, 20 squats, & 30 LBCs
Mutual store wall: 10 merkins, 20 squats, 30 LBCs, & 40 donkey kicks

Now that we are warmed up, we mosey to the church for our blocks. Dan Taylor across the parking lot with the coupon. We got to 4 before we reached the other side. Then Jack Webb with the coupons up to 4, before Dan Taylor got us back to the starting point.

The PAX returned our coupons and moseyed back over to the florist shop for more 4 corners, this time without the escalator to keep things on schedule. So just one exercise at each station, with the same reps as above.

Round 2 went a bit quicker than expected, so over to the hill on the backside of the amphitheater for Patches O’Houlihan (1 squat at the bottom, backwards run to top for 4 lunges) up to 4.

Time to head back to the circle for Mary, but first we did 10 Superman burpees for Spicoli. For Mary, we did erectors (holding a few at the top), corkscrews, heels to heaven, Rosalita and Dolly. Times up.

YHC has seen a lot of statements about 2016 being the “worst year ever.” It has certainly been a year of challenges. The country has never felt more polarized in my lifetime. However, it is worth remembering that by any objective measure there has never been a better time to be alive than right now. That means the dissatisfaction that is so evident in our culture is not really from any material need, but from a spiritual one. As God and belief is driven from our culture and our lives, it is not surprising that people find themselves less satisfied even as they gain more gadgets, food, clothes, etc. F3 helps to remind us that any endeavor without faith is ultimately going to leave us unsatisfied. For 2017, lets endeavor to make Christ the center of all that we do and never forget the many blessings he has bestowed upon us, most importantly the gift of salvation.

Prayers for those who are injured. Prayers for our country.

PS Note that there is no Drifter this year. The Drifter has led many of the PAX to F3, so it is a shame to see the event go on hiatus. As an alternative, some brothers are signing up for the Icebreaker on 1/21. I will be running it with my 2.0. The race is in Conastee, and its just a bit further than the Drifter (8k vs. 6k). Its only $15 to register ($30 if you want a shirt). You need to register by 1/7 to be guaranteed a shirt. Hopefully we can get a critical mass at this event and EH some more men to F3.
