YHC was a second (or third..or fourth) string safety for Spring Valley High School in the early ’00s.  Those were the good ol’ days.  Some of my least favorite memories involve summer conditioning, which consisted of lifting, track running, and if we were lucky, stadium steps.  One day, while driving by Historic Sirrine Stadium in Greenville (The home of the Furman Paladins from 1936-1980, and current home to the Greenville HS Red Raiders –, a light bulb came on.

The VSF was planted and 8 scrubs tried out for varsity this past Wednesday, with mixed results.

The Conditions: Gloomy.  75% humidity, 73 degrees.

The Thang: Fast-mosey straight down Winyah Street.  Right on Faris, left on Augusta, right on Jones Avenue.  Plank and wait at Jones/Crescent, proceed down the hill to the intersection of Jones/Cleveland.  About 1.3 miles.

SSH x 20, in cadence.  Keep moving, nothing to see here.

Into the stadium.

Home side stands (northwest side):

Bent Jacobs Ladder: up the stairs, 1 burpee, run to the next row of stairs, down the stairs, run to the next row and up, 2 burpees.  And so on until we get to 7 burpees.  (For those that suffered a similar fate during their HS days, we ran stadium steps in a serpentine pattern).

Down to the field, line up at the Goal Line. AYG to the other Goal Line.  Mosey back to Jones/Cleveland, back to the VSF with the same route from which we came.

Ye Olde Moleskine:

That was loads of fun.  As hard as football conditioning was, YHC has extremely fond memories of practice and conditioning, where I first learned the concept of #MeanMeanStride.

Larrys Birds to Weed Wacker, Houdini and Debit.  Nice work guys.  You’ve earned your role on STARTING DEFENSE – A PLACE AT THE TABLE.

If F3 ever fields a football team, we have a strong starting squad of 8 pax who conquered the stadium steps and then ran a kick return back for a TD the length of the field.

QB- Weed Wacker, RB- Houdini, C- Nails, WR- Stewie, Lotion, and Debit TE- YHC and Iceman

Respect to WD Nails.  Happy Father’s Day, thanks for everything you’ve done for me.

T-Claps to Iceman and Houdini for making the haul to join us.  Yall are always welcome at #ACEs Wild.
