The Christmas Season is upon us, men. On the heels of our fantastic showing at Toys for Tots, it’s time we got together again to do some good. Every year, on Christmas Eve, there’s a casual run and canned food drive that starts/finishes at Tommy’s Ham House on Rutherford Rd. Last year, about 20 of us did it, and we’re hoping to have more show up this year. Here are the details from the organizers:
It’s time again for The Christmas Eve morning run/walk. Please send this on to others who might be interested in participating.
Here are the details:
Kent Satterfield and Bobby Chandler will be having their Annual Christmas Eve Morning Run on Wednesday, December 24. We will be meeting at Tommy’s Country Ham House located at 214 Rutherford Street, Greenville at 6AM for a very low key casual run……..and this will be low key. If you need a hard fast run this will not be it, this is all about fun, fellowship and enjoying the Season. If there are folks who would like to walk please encourage them to join in on the fun. We will be cruising our scenic downtown area, taking in the lights and various other sights.
We do dress up in festive wear, so bring out those jingle bells, Santa hats, Christmas shirts or whatever else you might want to wear. Lights are always a nice addition, and helps to keep us from getting run over.
The next important bit of information, breakfast will be at 7AM at Tommy’s. We will be doing a buffet breakfast at a cost is $8.50/personwhich includes tax and tip and it’s all you can eat. If you can’t make it for the run, come join us for breakfast. There will be several people taking this option. Just an FYI, Tommy’s is cash only, no credit cards. Also, if you know you will be eating breakfast and can let me know that would be great! lindasatterfield@charter.net But don’t let that keep anyone from joining the fun. We just want to give Tommy a head count.
A couple of years ago John Johnson added on to our Christmas Eve tradition by asking folks to bring canned goods for a local charity. So, to continue that tradition and in keeping with the Season we are asking everyone to bring some canned goods. We will donate the goods to the Triune Mercy Center next door to Tommy’s.
PARKING!!! We encourage you to park in the Triune Mercy Center parking lot which is on the corner of Stone and Rutherford, right beside Tommy’s. We have permission to use their parking lot. There is also parking across the street from Tommy’s at the Salvation Army and the lot next to it. Let’s try to leave some room in Tommy’s lot for the other customers.
We hope everyone will come join in the fellowship and fun and give thanks for this wonderful and joyous Season!
Please note that, even though this is a run, it’s a 2nd/3rd F event. Bring your shovelflags, your crazy Christmas outfits, your canned goods, and your sense of Christmas cheer. All you ruckers that don’t like to run, bring your GR1s and get some miles in.
This also means that THERE WILL BE NO RING OF FIRE OR BEASTSIDE. Of course, you are free to do/organize your thing, but we encourage you to converge and get some quality time in with some PAX.
Aye.
How far of a run will this be? May be able to swing this.
YES!!!! I was hoping someone would post about this. I couldn’t remember who knew about this and the timing. Thanks for putting this out there Flay.
Everyone else…this is a really fun event that is a great cause, and also gets us together during the holidays. You should absolutely attend. You can be home before the sun is up to help the M’s get everything together.
*As a footnote…if someone could highlight to Hootie the details about this being a SLOW AND FUN RUN. Last year, I think he tried to win the thing with a sub 20 5K.
Sponge, should we expect you to show up just after the run but before the buffet?
I was going to hold the table for everyone.
Ice, please make sure to include me on the backblast since I attended Lion’s Den today.
Love that “I am 3rd” attitude.
It’s not for everyone.
@Squeal: it’s a 5k. Plenty of walkers as well, so come on out!
@Sponge: I’ll bring my ruck for Hootie to slow his a$$ down.
Haha, much obliged. I can handle 3.1, sonny, but I won’t be breaking any records. Just making room for a solid 2,000+ calories at the all you can eat.
Last year we had a makeshift ruck that guys took turns running with. We could make @Hootie carry 2 shovel flags. He’d still probably finish the race sub 25
Man, there is just so much to do with that statement…
