14 pax came out to the Tower of Terror on a perfect April morning to honor U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Keith “Matt” Maupin, 24, of Batavia, Ohio.
YHC watched a short documentary on Matt, and have tried to summarize it in the Moleskin.
TClaps to @Thumper, @ThirdBase, and @ShortBarrel for the pre-game ruck. YHC slept in a little bit. Here is what went down:
Disclaimer and story of Staff Sgt. Matt Maupin by YHC.
Warm up – 20 quick SSH IC. That’s it, let’s go!
Thang – Run 1/4 mile out to the cones and 1/4 mile back to the tower. Perform 49 merkins, 49 air squats, and 49 big boy sit-ups. Rinse and repeat as many rounds as possible.
All pax got 3 rounds in at least. Some rabbits like @Bambi, @ACA, @SoccerMom, @ThirdBase, and @Thumper could have probably finished a 4th, but instead we all finished with some squats and 49 merkins with the six.
Mary – 25 LBCs IC.
Annc – Easy Bake Marathon in 12 days. RUN FORREST RUN! Marriage and Family service tomorrow (4/12) at First Pres downtown 7pm. 4/30 Mud Run and HOG Days. Sign up with Footloose.
Prayers and Praise – ACA home study #2, Harris in hospice care (Whisper’s friend), Praise for Cheney’s graduation!
Moleskin: U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Keith “Matt” Maupin, 24, of Batavia, Ohio, disappeared on 4/9/2004, when insurgents south of Baghdad attacked his convoy with small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades. His remains were found on March 20, 2008. Prior to his disappearance, Maupin served as part of the 724th Transportation Company in Bartonville, Illinois.
From the documentary of a fellow servicemen who was in the convoy that day, only 6 of the 26 trucks/fuel tankers made it through the ambush that day. Matt was captured, used as propaganda by the insurgents via a video on Al Jazerra showing him hostage, and ultimately executed on video. Several raids by US Special Forces were conducted, but they were unable to locate Matt.
Today, we honored him by giving everything we had during the workout. A very small price to pay given the ultimate price Matt paid.
Aye!
