In June 2016, I was at a crossroads with my personal fitness.  I had been a “runner” for many years, but I could never improve my times or distances.  I was maxed out at 3-4 miles, I couldn’t drop those few pounds I desperately wanted to drop and I developed a hatred for running.  I was frustrated and bored, so I started looking for something different, challenging and fun.  I was set to join 9 Round, when I heard about this group called F3.  I researched it and while it seemed a little cult-ish (which I have confirmed), it reminded me of The Citadel…working hard together, pushing out of my comfort zone, encouraging each other and bonding friendships in the process.

I reached out to an old childhood friend who I had not seen since he moved away in elementary school, Jason Silverstein (F3 AP).  He is on the F3 Board and has been instrumental establishing AO’s in Charlotte, Greenville, Dallas and Seattle.  He put me in touch with his high school friend, F3 Iceman, who encouraged me to give it a try.  And on June 25, 2016, I found myself at PitchFork at 0530 for an ATM led beat down (yea, do remember that guy?)  It was hard.  It was tough and I had never pushed myself so hard.  I was exhausted and sore for days, but I came back for more.  Soon, I found my self forging friendships with the young and old,  errr, seasoned.  F3 filled a void I didn’t know I had and now I’m in the best shape of my adult life because of them…because of you.

Since that day 3 years ago, I have dropped 20 lbs, surpassed my 3-4 mile run limit, completed a GoRuck Tough, the Palmetto 200 (twice), a 1/2 marathon, an upcoming 50k in November and made many new friends in the process(most of which no longer come to F3….you know who you are).

Pleasure to lead,
RT out
