Fun With Stairs

  • Workout Date - 01/21/2016
  • Q In Charge - RADAR
  • The PAX - 00, Slap Chop, Stewart Smalley, Homeward Bound, Iceman, hard hat, Billy Ray, Slurpee, Radar
  • AO -

When the call went out for a Burbs Q last night, I hesitated at first.  Sure, I enjoy being in the gloom with the PAX, especially when I get to inflict pain, but there was little time to prepare something good (and it was going to be long sleeve weather).  Then I remembered something I saw at a wrestling practice that could be fun for everyone, not to mention potentially dangerous.  I like that.

9 of the Eastside’s best and brightest rolled in, leaving me with a problematic odd number, but we would figure that out in a few minutes.

Warm Up
Windmills X 13 IC
Merkins X 10 IC
SSH X 13 IC (13 were done in order to allow 00 to annoy everyone a little more with his counting)
We were supposed to do Burpees here but I was too excited about what was next and forgot.

The  Thang
Mosey the long way around the church to the stairs.  If you have posted to The Burbs before, you know of our love for these stairs.  There’s about 20 of them and they are steep.  Joe is always present here.  If you have ever posted for a Radar or 00 (or heaven forbid a co-Q), you have also met Joe’s older, more sophisticated brother Joseph H. Hendricks III.  Unfortunately, he was away on important business matters, but Joe’s younger brothers were home.

Partner up – size DOES matter.  It was here that I had to inform hard hat that he was flying solo.  Nothing personal, he is just a large person.  See earlier posts for my thoughts on hard hat.

Round 5
Partner 1 – Grab Partner 2’s legs and push the wheelbarrow up the stairs (run back down the stairs – I don’t want anyone to get SERIOUSLY injured)
Partner 2 – Be the wheelbarrow
Flapjack

Round 6
Partner 1 – Grab Partner 2’s legs and push the wheelbarrow up the stairs (run back down the stairs – I don’t want anyone to get SERIOUSLY injured)
Partner 2 – Be the wheelbarrow
Flapjack

hard hat was all alone, as no one wanted to carry him up the stairs. In order to, in his words, “keep his heart rate up,” he did a variety of movements up the stairs that can only be described as interpretive dance.  I think he was just showing off the moves he’s been practicing in his bedroom mirror.

I found these new stair exercises to be satisfactory, and they will find their way into future workouts.  I must name them.

Lungewalk from the speed bump to the next speed bump by the hill.

11’s on the hill
Sumo squats at the bottom – run up – burpees at the top
start with 10 squats and 1 burpee.  This was way worse than I anticipated.

Mosey to the back of the parking lot for Dora
100 Hand-Release Merkins (not smart, but fun)
200 Squats
300 Plank Shoulder Touches

Partner 1 runs to the cones and back while partner 2 exercises.  Take turns until all reps are complete.

When we completed the Dora it was 6:14.  Quick Mary and run back to the shovel flag.

1MOM

Flutters until time ran out.  The stairs provided a solid core workout.

COT

Drifter
Convergence likely postponed due to Snowmageddon/Icepocolypse (you choose)

Prayer Requests
Quickie’s son
