“12 Days 2.0 Redux” sounds a bit redundant.  And it is intentionally redundant and repeats itself.  But as usual, there is madness in the method.

Last year, YHC introduced a 12 Days of Christmas workout for YHC’s anniversary Q.  The results were satisfactory, so YHC decided to bring it back for YHC’s 2nd anniversary Q at Powderkeg, which occurred on 11/28.  However, YHC was slack and failed to post a backblast from that workout, which would have been entitled “12 Days 2.0”.  So, YHC’s repeat performance for the gentle souls at Hurricane Alley (quite the contrast from their fierce moniker) is 12 Days 2.0 Redux.

Even though YHC is way late on the backblast, YHC felt compelled to post because 12th Man called YHC out in his backblast on 12/12 and exposed YHC’s lack of creativity regarding the 12s.  Like how YHC should have grabbed the 12th for my 12 Days workout.  And YHC probably should have done 12 reps of each warm-up exercise.  And so forth.  But in the same way YHC orders the same meal every time at a restaurant once YHC finds a favorite (e.g., Fiesta Lime Chicken at Applebee’s), YHC is loath to depart from a successful formula.  Consider yourselves lucky that YHC managed to improve the soundtrack this year.  So enough backstory…

12 PAX showed up in the gloom for YHC’s 2nd second-anniversary Q.  YHC could not have made that happen if YHC tried!

The Warm-up:

  • 20 SSH IC
  • 20 IW IC
  • 20 MC IC

The Thang:

Here is YHC’s 12 Days of Christmas workout.  The exercises were performed just like in the song with a short mosey between each “day”:

  1. Stinkin’ Burpee
  2. Double-count Werkins
  3. Belly Busters
  4. Crab Cakes
  5. Sumo Squats
  6. Nutcrackers (the second half of Bay City Scissors)
  7. Flutter Kicks
  8. Merkins (decreased from DC Merkins at Powderkeg a few weeks ago)
  9. Double-count Lunges
  10. Mexican Squats
  11. Diamond Merkins
  12. Broad-Jump Burpees

The exercises were accompanied by a new and improved 41-minute “12 Days of Christmas” playlist.  Performers included (* new entries for 2016):

  • Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters
  • Philadelphia Brass Ensemble
  • John Denver and the Muppets
  • A Celtic Family Christmas*
  • Straight No Chaser
  • The World’s Greatest Funk Band*
  • Bob & Doug McKenzie
  • Jeff Foxworthy (Redneck 12 Days of Christmas)
  • Pickin’ on Christmas*
  • Twisted Sister (Heavy Metal Christmas)
  • Relient K

Last year’s experience showed that it could be done as a pyramid (up to 12 then back down) in 41 minutes, so that’s how it rolled.  Around day 8 (on the way down), YHC called an audible, eliminating the moseys and encouraging the PAX to complete as many days as possible OYO.  We finished with 6 minutes to spare, so we did some Mary to finish off.  Note to self:  reinstate double-count merkins for day 8.  The timing is much better, and it is that much more of a smoker.

For those wondering, the exercise count for the full 12 days was:

  • Burpees-12
  • Double-count Werkins-22
  • Belly Busters-30
  • Crab Cakes-36
  • Sumo Squats-40
  • Nutcrackers-42
  • Flutter Kicks-42
  • Merkins-40
  • Double-count Lunges-36
  • Mexican Squats-30
  • Diamond Merkins-22
  • Broad-Jump Burpees-12

If you made it all the way back down, it was:

  • Burpees-23
  • Double-count Werkins-42
  • Belly Busters-57
  • Crab Cakes-68
  • Sumo Squats-76
  • Nutcrackers-78
  • Flutter Kicks-77
  • Merkins-72
  • Double-count Lunges-63
  • Mexican Squats-50
  • Diamond Merkins-33
  • Broad-Jump Burpees-12

Announcements & prayer requests:

Sorry, YHC’s voice recording of the COT could not be understood.  Besides, everything we discussed is out of date by now.

Keystone out!
